All of our retro rides are now on the same weekend. The Mighty Corinthian 300km on the Saturday and À L'ancienne 84km / Le Loafeur 47km on the Sunday.Bigger festival.
Part of the Retro Rendezvous Festival www.retrorendezvous.co.uk we've moved weekends to give a bigger gap after Eroica Britannia and to access the Coronation Hall, a wonderful local concert venue. This gives us far more indoor space, effectively weather proofing the festival.
Event Director, Alan Brenton explains:'We listen hard to what our riders say and we've changed the event based on their feedback. We realised that people weren't really getting the À L'ancienne (in the old way) brand, so we've retained it as a route title and adopted the much stronger Velo Retro www.veloretro.co.uk The impact has been instant with a huge increase in web hits and early bookings well ahead of this time last year.'
Authentic Event The festival is based in the South Lakes market town of Ulverston, birth place of Stan Laurel, Alan continues; 'we really want to keep this as a grounded festival. It's town based which much of the activity in local venues and street markets. We're really keen to keep this as an authentic event, with much of the activity completely free and no major corporate involvement - probably more like the original L'eroica Gaiole than anything.'
Travel The event is easily accessible by rail with direct trains from Manchester Airport. It is also 25 mins from M6 Junction 36.
Great Riding Regardless, the routes remain truly world class, using quiet roads and staggering Lake District scenery. 'When you live in a place, it's easy to stop noticing how amazing thigs are, the feedback from out of area riders reminds us of how truly special this place is.'
