Wiggle Jurassic Classic Countdown

by Henry Peacock

In its first year, the Wiggle Jurassic Classic [Sat 18th August] will see riders take on the best Devon has to offer. The Jurassic Classic was scheduled for earlier in the year but was cancelled due to appalling weather as some of the roads on the route were reduced to rivers.

The 100km and 100 mile chip-timed routes will start and finish at Exmouth Rugby Club (10 miles from Exeter), taking riders on a course mapped out to give a tour of Devon’s cycling highlights. If you’ve been inspired by Bradley Wiggins and the rest of the Team GB cycling team, then this is the perfect opportunity to get on your bike.

Alongside the views (and hills) that have made Devon a cycling Mecca, riders will be rewarded by feed stations stoked with High5 nutrition, M&S sandwiches, as well as local, energy-boosting Devon specialties. Riders will be greeted by a buzzing event village with live music and food, where they can celebrate their accomplishment with their family and friends.

Really Pretty Views On Offer

As well as offering a fantastic day out, the ride is also raising funds to support the 250,000 men currently living with prostate cancer in the UK. Eddie Broom is one of these men and is taking part in the Wiggle Jurassic Classic to raise funds and awareness of prostate cancer.

Eddie, 66, of Little Johns Cross Hill, Exeter, added: “I'm looking forward to the challenge of the ride and I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me. I would like to urge anyone who is having symptoms which relate to prostate problems to see their G.P. if they’re worried. Even though I was fit and lead a healthy life prostate cancer still affected me.”
