Ride in the Rutland and Lincoln Weekenders
by Adam Tranter
The organizers of the two biggest one-day road races in the country have teamed up with ITP Events www.itpevents.co.uk to put together whole weekend of cycling.
The weekend of 16th and 17th of April 2011 will be one of the best on the calendar for participation and spectating, with something for everyone from Sportive riders to youth racers to professional riders. Thanks to generous sponsorship from Tesco, the immediate future of the International CiCLE Classic is secure.
The riding kicks off with the third edition of the Discover Rutland CiCLE Tour, with 1000 riders expected to take on the 100 or 50 mile routes. Due to rider feedback the routes remain unchanged, giving you the chance to test your fitness. Enter at www.itpevents.co.uk
This event is now partnered with a local cancer charity, Hope Against Cancer, who will be helping to staff the event on the day.
The weekend of the 7th and 8th of May 2011 introduces the new Lincoln Festival of Cycling and the first edition of the Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive to build a programme of events around the oldest and best loved one-day cycle race in the country. Choose from the 92 or 55 mile routes which take in the picturesque and challenging Lincolnshire Wolds.
The 55 miler is less hilly and perfectly suited to those new to cycling or to Sportives. However, both routes finish on the cobbled climb of Michaelgate in the heart of historic Lincoln, so be warned!
Also available from ITP Events is the new Hope Against Cancer Leicestershire SuperTour. This event features a 112 mile and 64 mile ride, with the option of a 5km run afterwards for triathletes. This event is ideal for mile eating riders and anyone training for Ironman triathlon.
Taking in almost a full circuit of the county and the most varied and picturesque terrain Leicestershire has to offer, it includes the beautiful and challenging Charnwood forest. If you have not cycled in Leicestershire before, we're confident the route design will give you a great day out to remember.
Hope Against Cancer are a major partner in this event and we hope that we can both raise money and the profile of the charity significantly. Anyone wishing to raise sponsorship for their ride should visit www.hfcr.org
