Tour of Worcester CTC Challenge Ride and Sportive
by Henry Peacock
The Tour of Worcester is the final round of the 2012 CTC Challenge Rides and Sportives Series taking place on Sunday 14th October 2012. Starting from Worcester Racecourse, there will be two routes available, 92 miles and 64 miles, with both offering a chance to test your climbing legs for one last time this year. The long route, 92 miles, is based on the Tour of Britain stage in the area from 2007 with a few extra bits thrown in making it even tougher.

One Last Chance To Stretch Your Legs In 2012
Both routes head out of Worcester in a clockwise direction taking in the classic climbs of Malvern followed by Ankerdine before the long route splits off to take in an extra loop towards Tenbury Wells and a short excursion into Shropshire before returning to meet the short route again. From here there is the chance to tackle the “killer option” of the 25% gradient of Wynniattes Way for those still feeling fresh, fear not if you aren’t as an easier option is clearer marked one mile before the climb. After this it’s a lumpy return to the finish via Holt Fleet with five listed climbs and a hot meal for all finishers at the racecourse.
The event will have the usual high level of CTC sportive facilities with fully signposted routes, well stocked feedstops on route (2 on the long and 1 on the short), NEG motorcycle outriders, mechanical service en route, and a broom wagon should your bike fail you.
