by Adam Tranter

Super

It's that time of the year again when we team up with Evans Cycles to announce our worthy winner of our Super Sportiver competition, Tom Cornwell. Tom will be writing a blog for Evans Cycles and articles for us here at Cyclosport while using some great kit courtesy of Evans.

Congratulations to him and we wish him all the best over the next sportive season. He was picked for his drive to change how he looked and to get out of the pub and make himself healthy again.

For winning the Super Sportiver competition Tom will be receiving a brand new Pinnacle Evaporite One worth £1199.99 from Evans Cycles and a Louis Garneau Versa helmet worth £64.99. All the other bits he will need such as pedals, shoes and gloves will also be provided topped off with some very smart LeMarq Cyclosport kit.

Tom will be writing blogs Evans Cycles and writing for us here at Cyclosport where he gets to ride his favourite Sportives and write about them frankly for you, the reader. Keep an eye out for him and if you see him on any rides please say hello.

We received loads of entries for this competition and picking a winner was really tough!

We got Tom to introduce himself, here is what he said:

Hi, I’m Tom Cornwell I am 45 years old, live in Farnborough, Hampshire but have my roots near Sevenoaks. I am employed as a buyer for a used car supermarket in West London.

From the cycling/sporting perspective I was a keen sportsman into my early twenties representing Kent in both basketball and athletics. I then largely spent the next twenty years in the pub choosing to watch (predominantly rugby union) rather than take part.

Despite brief dalliances with various attempts to get back into shape I found myself living a sedentary life & my weight ballooned to 135kg. Aged 42, following a slipped disc & stern words from the resulting physiotherapist I decided that now was the time to do something about my general condition. Cycling, which I had always enjoyed in my younger years, seemed to offer the answer. I worked hard and 3 years, and many thousands of miles later, I tip the scales at 86kg and would describe myself as an obsessive cyclist.

I entered my first sportive in February 2011; The Spring Onion, Leatherhead, and was immediately addicted. Since then I have participated in more than 30, I’m really pleased that this will now give me even more motivation to get out and ride my bicycle. I'm incredibly grateful for Cyclosport and Evans Cycles for this opportunity. It's going to be a massive help to my cycling season and hope I can give something back by giving some hopefully useful feedback on the upcoming events.

To all those reading this, best of luck with all your cycling challenges over the coming season and I hope to meet some of you in due course.
