The Quiet Roads

The charity’s Development Director and keen cyclist Allan Muir says: “The route circumnavigates the South Downs between Petworth in the east and the Meon Valley in the west; passing through some of the prettiest villages and hamlets the South of England has to offer, including my home-village of Buriton. We’ll cycle by green rolling pastures, ancient woodlands, river valleys and wetlands all within the recently designated South Downs National Park. Climbs include Harting Down, Butser Hill, Old Winchester Hill and Goodwood’s Kennel Hill it also includes an 80kph (50mph) descent before a sharp left-hand turn at Duncton for those who dare. Riders will experience an exhilarating and challenging sportive and will be helped to recuperate afterwards with hot food and refreshments”.

About Glycogen Storage Disease (GSD):
As you train for your sportive, carb-loading to pack your body with glycogen, give a little thought to those infants, children and adults who have considerable stores of glycogen in their liver and muscles, and yet such exercise would be painful, damaging or even life-threatening. Each of the known glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) gives rise to symptoms ranging from mild exercise intolerance through to premature heart, liver or kidney failure. The AGSD-UK supports families and individuals living with GSD; they hold workshops and events to help patients understand their condition and learn to manage their complex dietary, exercise and medical needs. They also supply information about the latest therapeutic advances through websites and newsletters.
