Record-Breaking Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon Launches For 2017
by Holly Blades
The race is on for cyclists to secure their place in this year's Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon, the annual Yorkshire charity cycling event for the UK property and business community.
Now in its fourth year, the 2017 ride will take place on Friday 12 May and once again raise money for LandAid, the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK. Last year's ride raised more than £15,000 for the charity - a target Carter Jonas hopes to exceed this year.
Supported by independent Yorkshire brewer, T&R Theakston Ltd, the ride will start and end at the historic Theakston brewery in Masham and take in part of the iconic Tour de France route. Riders will again be given the choice of two rides - the 80 mile challenge or a 40 mile social ride - through the picturesque Yorkshire landscape.
Organised by Iconic Cycling Events, last year's event attracted more than 300 riders, including teams from more than 70 companies from across the UK. LandAid currently supports 27 projects in the UK including five in Yorkshire where there are more than 32,000 families and individuals homeless or at risk of becoming so. Money raised will be used to help renovate empty or derelict properties, bringing them back into use as safe, affordable homes.
Mark Granger, chief executive, Carter Jonas said:"When you see the effects of LandAid's work and the positive impact it has on the lives of so many young people, you realise what a vital charity it is, and the importance of fundraising efforts such as ours. Because of this we are extremely excited to launch our fourth Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon. The day combines many things about which we are passionate: firstly showcasing Yorkshire - which is one of our key business centres; cycling, which some are perhaps more keen on than others!; as well as networking and enjoying great local food and drink with colleagues and friends, all whilst supporting and raising money for LandAid."
Paul Morrish, chief executive, LandAid, commented: "It is fantastic that Carter Jonas is looking to build upon the tremendous success of last year's Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon. It promises to be an action packed day, full of sporting triumph and comradery. I never fail to be amazed by the property industry's generosity, good will and focus on helping us achieve a lasting effect on young lives. We're all looking forward to 12 May, I better get in training!"
Simon Theakston, executive director, T & R Theakston Limited, said: "It is always a pleasure to welcome people to our brewery, and it's even better when it's for a positive cause such as LandAid. We had great fun at last year's event and really appreciate the huge efforts that go into training for, and supporting it. I'm very pleased that we can reward participants vital liquid refreshment at the end of the day!"
Up until the 31 March there is an early bird entry fee of £50 per rider or £250 per team of 6. For more information and to register visit the website www.yorkshirepedalthon.co.uk. To keep up with all the action on twitter follow @CJPedalthon.
