2013 Santini Cotswold Spring Classic Now Open

by Adam Tranter

Following on from last year's third successive sell-out event, the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic is back for 2013 - taking its regular annual slot on Easter Monday, which comes early in 2013 falling on April 1st. The friendly format and early season date has proved a hit with riders over the years and the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic has taken its place as one of the must do events to kick start your season.

Event organisers, Velo Events Ltd, are happy to be able to announce the continued support of Italian clothing brand Santini for 2013. "Having a brand like Santini supporting the event makes a real difference, they're really supportive of what we're doing and want to see the event grow steadily over the coming years. The also bring with them a certain amount of Italian style to then heart of the Cotswolds," said Andy Kirk, Event Director.

New for 2013 will be the addition of a shorter, 50km route (as well as the 100km and 160km routes). The new route is aimed at riders who may be new to the sport, or riders that need that first target ride of the year. Like the longer routes, the 50km route will be fully supported, fully signed and have a feed station at half distance.

Along with Santini, there are also a number of other brands signed up to support the event - including Mekk Bicycles, De Rosa and Merckx Bikes, all of which will have their new 2013 models on display.

The Santini Cotswold Spring Classic is a fully supported sportive, with a choice of fully signed routes, electronic timing, two well stocked feed stations (one for the short and medium routes), NEG outrider support, neutral service (provided by Performance Cycles/Fulcrum/Schwalbe) and much more. All riders will also get free hot food at the end of the event, and a goodie bag containing a gift from Santini (worth £9.99) and the now traditional Easter Egg!

The rider limit for 2013 has had to be reduced to just 600 riders (down from the sell-out 750 in 2012) due to a long term building project at the Cirencester College HQ which means parking has been reduced. Andy Kirk said: "We are doing our best to secure additional parking facilities, but until we are happy that this is sorted we've taken the decision to reduce the numbers for the event - we'd rather make sure everyone has got somewhere to park rather than continue to increase the numbers of riders and leave people looking for spaces around the town."
