Wiggle Chilterns Wildwood CX Sportive Returns in February

The Wiggle Chilterns Wildwood CX Sportive is back for a fifth year, and on a new date of February 7th to move it away from the last week of the cyclocross race season, making it an ideal last blast for your late season form.

It's now five years since CX Sportive launched the Wildwood as their first event, and in that time, the CX scene has continued to strengthen and moved into the cycling mainstream. More and more people are adding a CX (cross or 'gravel') bike to their collection, and cyclocross racing has boomed in popularity.

But crucially, adoption of the bikes is extending further than the race track as riders realise the possibilities of taking these versatile machines out on their local tracks and trails, and mixing up pre-conceived ideas of road or off-road cycling into a single, unrestricted style of riding that rips up the rulebook and ignores old boundaries.

It's this style of riding that CX Sportives deliver. And the Chilterns Wildwood CX is a great example of the format. After a fast tarmac warm up to get your legs turning, the course hits an entertainingly lumpy stretch of concrete farm track that will have you wondering if you've strayed onto a cobbled classic, and then spends the rest of the day chopping and changing between an array of surfaces.

Dirt roads, leafy forest racks, an assortment of tarmac lanes in varying states of repair (or disrepair!) and even a few stretches of rooty singletrack will spice up your day. Over the last five years this event has enjoyed every kind of winter weather, from hard packed frost, to wet mud, to snow and ice, in bright winter sunshine or driving rain.

The impressive thing is how well the route stays rideable, whatever the weather. With just one or to short exceptions (it is winter, after all!), this route is designed for you to ride, not to spend your day plugging through knee deep mud!

The Wildwood CX gives you a fully featured and supported day out, with comprehensive route marking, feed stations, catering at base, free energy products, electronic timing, mechanical support, finishers' medals, a Wiggle trade stand and everything you expect from a top quality event.
