St Michaels Mount
Starting from Marazion, both sportive routes head west along the dramatic Cornish coastline, allowing participants the chance to take in the stunning view of St Michael’s Mount. Riders will pass through Penzance, an ancient market town and carry on to Land’s End, the most western point of mainland Britain and the start of the 2012 Olympic Torch relay.
The route will then head back east towards Cape Cornwall, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and one of the most romantic stretches of coastline in Britain. Heading along the beautiful north coast of Cornwall, the route will then split at Gwithian. Those riding the 100km will travel back southbound towards the finish in Marazion, whilst those riding the longer 150km route will carry on along the coastal road to the popular village of St Agnes, before cutting down towards Devoran and back across country to the finish in Marazion.

The Sportive Route
CYCLE WEST is a €8.6 million project that was launched back in 2010 to promote cycle tourism on both sides of the English Channel, bringing together local authorities across the South West with counterparts across La Manche, as well as ferry operators whose vessels sail across it.
Since its launch, the initiative has created more than 1,000 km of new cycling routes in areas bordering the Channel, and is expected to attract tens of thousands of additional visitors to the participating regions each year.
Fiona Clampin, CYCLE WEST UK Marketing Manager said: “We are delighted to support the Sportive rides which not only encourage more people to get active and enjoy competitive sports, but also celebrate the beauty of the Cornwall – one of the regions we champion through our network of cycle routes. We look forward to an excellent festival weekend.”
