SportiveBreaks.com Announces New Long-Weekend Cycling Holidays

by Holly Blades

Cycling holidays are more popular than ever. In 2017, there will be 2 million overnight cycling trips taken by UK & Irish riders. For these enthusiast, SportiveBreaks.com are launching a new range of long weekend breaks to some of the most iconic climbs in cycling.

Sportive Breaks are launching today a new range of 4 night cycling breaks, aptly named "The Perfect Long Weekend". These trips include some of the best cycling
destinations in the world - the Pyrenees, Lake Como, Provence and the Alps.

The formula for the perfect long weekend is four days of hand-picked classic routes and some local favourites, all led by a local guide with a passion for the area.

These rides are combined with easy airport transfers, accommodation at top rated bike hotels and prices from £399. Each long weekend break finishes with an individual time trial up the classic climb of the area. It gives riders a chance to race against both the clock and up to 50,000 other riders on Strava. The Alpe d'Huez segment is the most popular of the classic climbs and has been attempted over 52,000 times - the record holder is leading pro Thibaut Pinot at a cool 37mins59secs. All riders will post a time on the Sportive Breaks leaderboard with prizes from cycling swag to free holidays being awarded for the fastest rider at the end of the year.

"We heard again and again from our customers how hard it was to organise trips to the classic climbs. From struggles getting 3 bike boxes in a rental car, to people getting back from trips and missing out on some amazing local routes," says Phil Sears, one of Sportive Breaks' founders.

"We wanted to improve that. Our perfect long weekends start with our local guides, from Christian in Luchon to Luca in Bellagio, these guys have such a passion for their local area and have picked the best four rides for us. The rides are relaxed with a chance to meet new people and enjoy the amazing scenery, but at the same time we know that our riders can be a bit competitive, so on the last morning we organise a time trial so they can let out their inner Chris Froome. It's the perfect long weekend, a chance to meet new people, enjoy three rides at a relaxed pace on beautiful quiet roads, smash it on the final morning on a mountain time trial and be home in time for Countryfile."

Each four night break follows the same stucture - a Wednesday evening arrival, welcome dinner with the local host and accommodation at the best bike hotels in the area. The rides are approx. 100km per day with 1-4 climbs. The group ride together on the flat and then regroup at the top of each climb. The final day is all about the time trial and then its back to the hotel for a late checkout, pack the bikes up and head home for Sunday afternoon.
