The formation of the Bradley Wiggins Foundation was made public on the 29th May and today [31st May], the Foundation has released an announcement on their website detailing an exciting mass participation event.

The cyclosportive nick-named ‘Ride With Brad’ will take place on August 19th after both the Olympics and the Tour de France. Wiggins is tipped to have an excellent Tour de France and will most likely come away with some medals from the Olympics. With under a month to go before he rolls down the start ramp in Liege at the Grand Depart of the Tour, all eyes will be on watching how he does.

There will be two routes available; 100km and 160km both in Lancashire using the local roads Wiggins uses for training and where he has lived for over ten years.

Wiggins said of the cyclosportive: "Come and join me on a challenging ride through the stunning Lancashire countryside and experience the roads and climbs I regularly train on.  This brand new event has been specially organised to help celebrate the launch of the Bradley Wiggins Foundation.  I look forward to welcoming you all and riding alongside many of you on what will be a special day for all the family."

The ride is in support of the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, its main principles outlined are:

  • To promote participation in sport and encourage people to exercise on a regular basis.
  • Support keen and talented athletes from all sports who have the potential of taking their talent to the next level.
  • Provide equipment or facilities to allow participation in sport as an individual, through clubs, local communities or schools.

The Bradley Wiggins Sportive is being organised by the well-respected Pennine Events Company, who are responsible for the Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride and organise logistics for some of the biggest cycling events in the UK. Wiggle are the sportive mechanical partner and MapMyTracks will be supporting timed challenges on some of the big climbs.

The price for the Ride With Brad will be £40 for either of the routes.

With 2000 places available and the media interest around the Foundation, Cyclosport are expecting them to sell fast, online entry is available from now on the event website.
