Saddleback Fred Whitton - £500,000 Raised

The Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge organised by The Lakes Road Club and friends, celebrated raising Half a Million Pounds for charity by having a very special dinner at The Castle Green Hotel Kendal.
A Huge Amount Of Money Raised For Good Causes
The event has raised a huge total of half a million pounds over 13 years and 86 thousand of that total was raised in 2012. Cyclist and Paralympian Sarah Story OBE, was the special guest and handed out donations raised on this years ride. Macmillan Cancer Support received £45 thousand, the Dave Rayner Fund £20 thousand, North West Air Ambulance £10 thousand and The Duddon And Furness Mountain rescue £10 thousand.

The original ride was started as a tribute to The Lakes Road Club Secretary and Racing Cyclist Fred Whitton who died of cancer aged 49. The Fred Whitton is now regarded as the countries leading Cycle Sportive, with entries always over
subscribed, and with the successful applicants decided by ballot.
Due to the popularity of the ride a novel electronic timing service called The Four Seasons Fred Whitton is available for any rider wanting to complete the ride on any day of the year.
