For 2016, the event is again based out of the Royal Cornwall Showground (Wadebridge) with weekend camping tickets available. This year, we have moved the event to the much quieter Bank Holiday at the start of May to enable riders from around the country more time to come and enjoy this wonderful part of the country. The main route change is out of Port Isaac; now a gentle climb rather than a big steep climb!
The Cornwall Tor has got to be one of the most dramatic and picturesque sportives on the calendar. Our Espresso route is designed for novice road cyclists to come and enjoy this wonderful part of Cornwall, or for the busy cyclist to come and get a training ride in during the morning. The Chapeau route is aimed at all sportivistes looking to take on some stiffer challenges along the North Atlantic coastline such as the Millook climb. Our ULTRA route uses a full 40 miles of the Atlantic Coastline for those riders seeking to push themselves much further. Whichever route you choose; you'll be surrounded by the KTG support team who will be there to help you get safely to the finish line. All the routes are carefully designed to mix challenges with fun and recovery inducing free-flowing downhills. Whether you're a novice or experienced cyclist, KTG are here to help you get the very best from your day.
All the routes take a steady northerly route through picturesque Cornish villages whilst providing sneak glimpses of the sea and the rolling 'Tor' countryside. The Chapeau and Ultra routes take in the old RAF airfield at Davidstow with views to Brown Willie, the highest point in Cornwall; whilst the Espresso route heads towards the south end of Boscastle in order to miss out the big climb out of the village. The Chapeau route splits off the Ultra route and heads for Widemouth Bay where it re-joins the Ultra route ready for the Millook climb. The Ultra route keeps heading as far north as the GCHQ station near to the wooded Coombe Valley climb and the route now heads south through Bude and then on to Widemouth Bay, Crackington Haven, Boscastle (re-joinging with the Espresso route near the top of the climb), Tintagel and Port Isaac before heading back to Wadebridge.
Our Ultra route is more challenging than most 100 mile rides and this is why we have labelled it as Ultra. There is a huge amount of climbing involved requiring great stamina and fitness, as well as a buckets of determination!
