Ride to the Rugby: a Shelter Cymru Cycle Challenge

The RBS 6 Nations is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar. Every two years tens of thousands of Welsh supporters make their way to Dublin as Wales take on their Celtic cousins.

Our 2014 challenge is to cycle from The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff arriving at The Aviva Stadium, Dublin in time to take your seat for the game.

Total cycling distance will be 200 miles but the weather in February will be an additional challenge.

The ride starts at The Millennium Stadium on Wednesday 5th February.

Day 1 is approximately 65 miles stopping off at The Liberty Stadium and Parc Y Scarlets before ending just west of Carmarthen.

Day 2 is a short 40 mile ride to Pembroke Dock ready for the ferry crossing to Rosslare.

Day 3 Leave Rosslare for a ride up the east coast of Ireland finishing in Arklow.

Day 4 Match Day. Leave Arklow for a 35 mile ride into the heart of Dublin arriving at the stadium in time for kick off.

Day 5 Leisure day in Dublin before returning to Rosslare by mini bus for the return journey home.

Each rider is asked to raise a minimum of £1,200 in sponsorship. Support, guidance and if required a tailored detailed plan of how to achieve this target will be provided to each rider.

In return for raising the minimum sponsorship of £1,200 for Shelter Cymru you will receive:-

A ticket to the match

Advice and training schedules prior to departure

A pre ride training day

Ferry crossing to Ireland

All accommodation

Breakfast and specifically prepared meals throughout the day

All energy drinks whilst riding

All cycle repairs whilst on the event

Return transport to Cardiff

A commemorative shirt upon which logos can be placed to generate sponsorship

Full support from Sarn Helen Events

Leading the Ride will be our Ambassador former Wales Captain and British Lions forward Colin Charvis. Having earned nearly 100 international caps on the rugby field Colin is now a regular cyclist and has completed the ABSA Cape Epic.

Colin Charvis said "There is no doubt this could be an amazing adventure".

We have teamed up with Nation Radio who will be following the riders as they "Ride to the Rugby".
