Men’s Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in aid of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland
We are looking for men of all cycling abilities and ages to enter our C2C Cycle Challenge on May 5th-7th 2012. Join a team of 50 men for the challenge of a lifetime whilst helping to raise vital funds for local charity, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
Our trip begins on Saturday 5th May 2012 by dipping our front wheels into the Irish Sea in Whitehaven. We set off into the stunning scenery of the Northern Lake District finishing the first day in the market town of Penrith in the Eden Valley.
On Sunday morning we set off from Penrith for the most challenging day of the event, climbing up on to the ‘Roof of England’ – the Northern Pennines. Although this is a shorter day there are a number of steep hills to conquer before finishing the day at Allenheads. A well deserved meal in the evening will be provided and there will be the opportunity for a glass of beer/wine and a chat about the day’s events.
After breakfast on Monday morning we head through the Durham Dales. After one initial climb the route is downhill to our final destination of Tynemouth at the North Sea where medals and bubbly will be part of the celebrations.
Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland provides a free palliative nursing service for patients in the north and east of Cumbria who are terminally ill and want to be nursed at home with all that is loved and familiar around them.
Support is also provided to the patient’s family and loved ones. The charity must raise £9,500 each week to continue to provide this service.
The Registration fee to take part in this event is £100 and is non refundable. This includes: Lunches and refreshments en route for all three days, provision of cycle lock up Evening 1 (at owners’ risk), accommodation, dinner and breakfast in Stanhope on Evening 2 (the first evening accommodation is not included although numerous venues for accommodation are available throughout Penrith), Cycle maintenance and support en route, Support vehicle and transfer of luggage.
Each participant will be asked to use their best endeavours to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship and a fundraising pack is available to give various ideas, sponsorship forms etc. The Fundraising Office are always on hand to offer support and guidance.
