West Midlands' new spring sportive - The 2012 Motion in Mercia promises to be the sportive challenge for the West Midlands. We've got 2 exciting routes of 90 miles or 50 miles around South Staffordshire and Shropshire. Both routes depart from the prestigious Aldersley Leisure Village HQ and head off to the climb up to the tranquil forest of Cannock Chase. Then it's a gentle open descent and easy cruise to the feedstation via some of the quietest South Staffordshire Lanes. The 90 miles route takes riders 'all around the Wrekin' - the historic West Mercian beacon hill - and onto UNESCO world heritage site, Ironbridge. It was this place that got the modern industrial world in motion!
Why you must ride Motion in Mercia! - There's never been a sportive challenge in the West Midlands like this before - indeed this is the first ever Motion in Mercia but we've been to these parts before with the first Cannock Chase sportive in 2007 and passing through when on John O'groats/Land's End rides and record attempts. The terrain is not especially hilly but with springtime temperatures it's a likely to be quite some challenge. We've always wanted to slow down and take a proper look at Mercia. Glad we did because it really is a super place to get on yer bike!
