The Nutter Challenge

Our latest Cyclosportive will be held on the 29th April 2012. It will test your abilities and take you over Pendle Witch Territory and the Trough of Bowland. The going gets tough from an early stage as you follow one of the Three Routes stunning and challenging routes via the hills, peaks and troughs of Pendle and Ribble Valley.

Pendleside is your start destination and more impotantly the great facilities of Burnley Colleges 'Event Village'. With the Pennines to the East and the Forest of Bowland to the Northwest, an area of oustanding Natural Beauty.

The panoramic scenery will take your breath away and youll have a chance to see some historic landmarks along the way - you maybe intrigued by the Pendle Witch Trials of 1612, when Alice Nutter was hauled over the 'Trough' to be tried with Ten others in Lancaster and condemened to death.

If you have time you could make a phone call from Englands most central PhoneBox in Dunsop Bridge - and read the plaque inside which says - 'You are calling from The BT Payphone which marks the most Central Point in Great Britian.

In the beauty of the Ribble Valley you will pass through Downham, location of several dramas and films, for example 'Whistle down the Wind' and 'Born and Bred'

So The Nutter Challenge awaits in three different routes; The Trough approx 163Km (101Miles), The Spellbinder approx 103Km (63Miles) and The Sorcerer approx 63Km (38Miles).

Route One - 'The Trough' Approx 101Miles.

Starting out from the The Event Village at Burnley College - you will proceed out of Burnley towards Newchurch (Home of the Witches!) at the foot of Pendle Hill.

Climbing Pendle taking in the views as you head toward Downham. Whistling down into Ribble Valley passing through Chatburn and then Grindleton you'll carry on upto Sawley and Slaidburn before arriving in Dunsop Bridge - Dont forget the PhoneBox!.

Now the Tough Trough Climb upto to see some incredible views over Morcambe Bay and Lune Valley, position yourself on the Jubilee Tower and if its really clear day you may even be able to see the Isle of Man. Take time to take in the views. Dropping now down into Caton and then Lancaster before meeting the Cycleway for a steady 10mile stretch to Glasson Dock.

A quick Left and your on your way home - well just about!. Passing through Chipping and the Trough one last time before the Climbof Jefferey Hill descending down into Whalley and Wiswell before another climb up Pendle. Your nearly there, passing Sabden Padiham before reacing Burnley and your back with Hot Showers and Meal waiting for you. What an Epic Ride!.

As our Route One upto Dunsop bridge before forking off Left back down into Whitewell on the way to Chipping to meet back up with Route One again.
