This end-of-season Wiggle South Downs 100 event is unique. Not only can you pit your wits against a challenging course spanning Hampshire and Sussex, but you'll also be able to take on one of the climbs against the clock on closed roads... a real chance to give it your all, as if you weregunning for a polka dot jersey.
If a timed hill-climb wasn't enough as part of a sportive, then notching up a century adds an ectra layer of attraction to the discerning endurance rider. With awhole feast of ascents to tuck in to you'll have certainly earned your right to feel proud at the end of this classic event.
Heading out from Chichester, we'll start you out on a gradual climb, easing you into a day comprising over 5,000 feet of ascent. The road takes you north and soon enough you'll be in amid the whale-backed mounds of the South Downs. Make yourself at home - the national park and its numerous ups and downs will be your host for the whole day. Be prepared for one particularly rapid descent just after Duncton - indeed, as well as testing your ability to climb, the route is peppered with technical drops, testing both your handling and your nerve.
The Epic route will take you briefly outside the tip of the national park before heading back in to continue chipping away at the miles. Skirting around Midhurst on an undulating ribbon of tarmac bordered by nibbled pastureland, the course now begins to build to its finale...
With the countryside tour continuing you duck under the outskirts of Petersfield, and presently you find yourself at the foot of the day's foremost appointment - Buster Hill, the highest oint of the South Downs. This unique climb isn't long but tops out at mur-esque 21 per cent. We'll time you separately from the main event so give it your all - as it features towards the end route make sure you save some gas! Good Luck!
