I would have given 10 out of 10 for the Feed Stops if there had been any bananas left (At first food stop for the 100k all the bananas had been taken by the 100mile riders who had passed through earlier the greedy sods. Apparently they looked like "gunslingers" with the bananas sticking out of various areas of lycra). Seriously, a truely great event for a truely great cause.
A great sportive, well worth doing. Great route in wonderful countryside with plenty of signage. Was a really hot day but lots of supplies at all the feed stations. Even jelly babies to help ease the pain. Looking forward to next years
Well organised and a lovely ride.
Very enjoyable ride in wonderful countryside. Some hills but neither flat nor exhausting, particularly in the heat of the day!
Very friendly and organised staff and support (thanks to all).
Accessible venue with all that was needed. Well done all the BBQ personnel in that heat.
I was Ok with seat post timing. All I want it to do is work (note Dragon)!
There were spare cable ties at venue to double up and attach number to handlebars.
Brilliant ride through wonderful countryside. Very car-free and good roads. Excellent food stops - really generous with plenty of savory items. Signage really clear. Very nice flattish 40k at the start followed by plenty of hills in the Cotswolds. Would strongly recommend this one.
Websitr easy to use.
Parking in recently cut grass which was a bit messy (but dry and close to start)
Start well organised
Not sure about the timing chip on the number attched to seat post!
Big arrows but could do with more repeat signs after junctions
Feeds stations well placed and good energy foods
excellent route very scenic
Finish not very well supported
Good free barbaque
Entry fee well priced and location of event very good.
I enjoyed the ride and would recommend it, just need a few small improvemnts to make it excellent. Well done organisers.
will be riding this event every year now ,one of the best courses i do all year ,not too hilly and plenty of smooth fast roads .feed stops were superb well stocked with very friendly staff .easy car park with toilets and showers and even a burger at the end .would recommend to everyone .
Simply the Best event EVER!!!!! Its a must, and not to be missed next year!!!
Superb location, well organised. Experienced riders need to be aware that shorter (10 mile) routes will have inexperienced riders and children on them.
A very well organised event on a great course. Something for everyone - a couple of tough long climbs and plenty of gentle rolling Cotswold terrain. Well stocked feed stations with a variety of sweet and savoury, plus High 5 energy drink.
Only niggle would be a lack of signage in a couple of areas - I'm glad I had a Garmin to guide me and no outriders on the course. That said it is a charity event and the roads are generally very quiet so no need to too much support. we were unlucky that there seemed to be some MG owners event on the same day, making it an interesting time on the narrow lanes approaching Chipping Camden! Everyone seemed in good humour though, no doubt in part to the fabulous sunshine. I will definitely be back in 2013 for my hat-trick in this event.
Essentially the route was pretty and scenic, if we¢ÂÂd been paying attention which we weren¢ÂÂt really, being too busy concentrating on surviving the wind. The roads were nice and quiet too, and mostly in pretty good nick. The food stops were great ¢Â village halls with toilets, and both well stocked and friendly. The whole event seemed efficiently run, and I have yet another medal and goody bag bottle to add to the collection.
Previous Years Event Ratings
A well organised event, plenty of parking at the racecourse and well stocked feed stations every 25 miles. The 65 mile route we did would normally be a great sportive for a first time sportive rider, but the crazy wind conditions made it one of the toughest rides I've done this year. There is only one tough climb and no technical descents on the shorter route, but the descent into Chipping Camden is great fun.
The route itself is well though out - largely very quiet lanes and the scenery in the north Cotswolds helps to take your mind off burning legs - the climb from Stanway is a great test. Given that this sportive is aimed at charity, I think it is descent value for money (the goody bag is not great, but personally I'd rather the extra cash went to the charity anyway). There are no outriders, but given the lack of busy roads and technical descents, I wouldn't have thought they were needed.
Great well organised event. Good quality feed stations. Beautiful scenery. Not to testing but good rolling terrain
