100, 62 or or 38 miles of glorious virtually traffic free roads. The route takes you to the highest village in Scotland and passes the birthplace of the pedal cycle.
The event HQ is the majestic Drumlanrig Castle. All proceeds from the Sportive go towards the work of Tearfund, bringing practical help and hope to some of the worlds poorest communities. The 2011 date will keep to the same May Day weekend, so it will be Saturday April 30th 2011. Same glorious venue ( scene of stage 6 finish in the Tour of Britain 2008). We reckon we can make the manual time keeping a bit slicker, but see no need to charge you an extra fiver just to have the same job done electronically. Same with the entries, Rolf prefers to stick with the personalised service, he will take e mail registrations in the new year.
The introduction of the104 mile route in 2010 was well recieved; but the split at Moniaive seemed to confuse some. So for 2011 we are sending everyone straight on through Moniaive and replaceing the 82 mile option with the 62 mile loop. The accidents on the first decent to Penpont also caused us some concern, so we have missed out the first climb, and this decent, making the route somewhat easier and more able to take bigger groups of riders in safety before hitting steep and rough "mini hardknott" to the top of Dunnregan Brae. . in addition to the main feed back at Drumlanrig. There will be intermediate banana and drink stations out on both legs and all route options.
Continuing pressure on council budgets means that the condition of some of the roads adds to the challenge, this is probably not an event for super expensive carbon wheels. As always, all funds raised will go to the work of TEARFUND. Please note, in order to maximise the proceeds for tearfund, we ask taxpayers to include a gift aid declaration; the entry "fee" is therefore free and we just ask for a donation. As most sportives of this quality charge at least £30 you may consider this,or more, to be the right amount. We are fundraising seperatly to cover the costs of the event, so every penny you send goes directly to Tearfund.
