Rivington 100 Cycle Challenge Latest Results

This year nearly 150 keen cyclists battled against the pouring rain and driving wind to take part in the 2nd running of Bolton Lads & Girls Club’s ‘Rivington 100’.

Travelling from as far afield as Hampshire, just to tackle what’s fast becoming an infamously challenging event – riders had a choice of tackling either a 52 mile or 100 mile route, both starting and finishing in Horwich.  Parts of each route included climbs tackled by riders in the 2002 Commonwealth Games road race and the Tour of Britain– a sign of just how tough the event is.

The event, which took place on 13th June, helped raise money for local charity, The Bolton Lads & Girls Club.  Fundraiser, and event organiser Laura Jones said, ‘We’re so grateful and proud of everybody who took part in this year’s event.  The weather conditions made what is already a tough course even trickier but it didn’t seem to dampen the riders spirits!  Congratulations and thank you to all the riders and volunteer marshals that helped make the event a success.’

Quotes from cyclists..

‘This is the second year I've ridden this and it's turned into a sportive I look forward to. Very well organised, friendly and helpful support staff and marshals, a suitably challenging course with some breathtaking views in a beautiful part of the country. It being a timed event this year certainly added to the appeal. Overall, highly recommended and looking forward to next year.’

‘Fantastic course with stunning scenery, a must do for all sportive fans for next year!’

‘My first 100 mile event, and I really enjoyed it. A great ride with superb scenery. Great organisation and feed stations were excellent with plenty of Grandma Rita’s cake, bananas and water etc. Good directions and signage. Very much one for the diary next year. I'd certainly recommend it.’

Just under £2000 was raised through the event this year, and Bolton Lads & Girls Club are looking for even more cyclists to take part when they host the event for a third time in 2011.   For further details – please check out the Club’s website, www.blgc.co.uk or email Laura.Jones@blgc.co.uk
