 Lakeland Loop Latest Results

What is the Lakeland Loop?

The 3rd Lakeland Loop takes place on Sunday April 11th 2010, starting from the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Great Langdale. The route initially climbs over Loughrigg Terrace and descends to Grasmere, from where it heads North through Keswick and climbs Whinlatter pass. From here the route heads East and South through Gosforth to Eskdale Green and the infamous Hardknott and Wrynose passes. With those challenges completed there is one final ascent from Little Langdale to reach Blea Tarn and start the descent into Great Langdale to finish at the New Dungeon Ghyll. The route is approximately 110k and can be described as very challenging. Experienced cyclists will require gear ratio of 39/27 as a minimum requirement, a compact chainset or triple chainset is strongly advised as the hardest climbs are close to the end of the route and are generally reached in a fatigued state. The event is insured by BCF and protective helmets (ANSI standard) are strongly recommended due to the steep descents found on the course.

How is the route marked?

The route will be marked with signs and road markings. The signs will be as shown on the right and the road markings will consist of an arrow and the letters EE in yellow paint. There will be a road marking 50m before a junction, at the junction and 50m past the junction for reassurance.

Are there food stops?

There are 2 food stops which will provide cold drinks and refreshments for competitors. The first food stop is at the bottom of Whinlatter pass at Lorton Village Hall and the second is shortly after Santon Bridge at Santon Bridge Village Hall. For a more accurate description of the food stop location view the route card below.
