The Herald VW Cycle Tour

The weekend-long festival of cycling kicks off with the mountain bike challenge in Addo on the Saturday followed by the road events in Port Elizabeth on the Sunday. The 105km Classic, which starts and finishes at Hobie Beach is known for its scenic coastal route around the “wild side” of the city. Franschhoek Lions/ Porcupine MTB Challenge

The 46.8 km route starts on good gravel roads with a portage across the Berg River, followed by riding on scenic gravel roads to the back of La Motte village. The first climb of the day is some 3.2 km long with an average gradient of 7.8%, with a fast descent behind the Mont Rochelle Hotel.

Reliability Trials in February 2011, catering for all grades of cyclists. There are three distances to choose from ,20 miles 45 miles and 70 miles, all around Leicestershire with no very difficult roads. We usually have around 75-100 riders, all entering on the day of the event.

The first of a number of local reliability rides, this one starts in Kingswinford heads to Bridgnorth, over the River Severn and then follows the B4363 to Kinlet where the direction changes for a return route through Bewdley, a climb to Trimpley then back to the headquarters.

Both routes head out along Spaanschemat River Road and over the eastern side of Ou Kaapse Weg to Sun Valley.
