Thanks for the report saintjohn, pretty much how I remembered it too, glad I wasn't alone. Congratulations on completing the full 100k. Respect.

Good write-up there Saintjohn.

I don't know about the timings as I did the 60k, which was in fact just over the 67k mark.

I guess the money pays for the chip timing, 'free bidon', 'free curry', gels etc etc..

It was a brutal morning's ride but, although I didn't enjoy it much at the time, I'm glad I did it!

Hmm, my results are showing in the short course section, not the full. Did I miss a timing control on the full one? Anybody else in the same boat? Seems there was a timing control on top of Moorcock summit which I missed possibly due to nav error or missing signpost.

Certainly a ride to forget! I have no shame in admitting I plumped for the shorter route at Denshaw... 40 miles in those conditions were more than enough ta very much! :-)

Thankfully noone seriously injured... I saw a few near misses with riders being blown in front of cars & two guys who either got blown off the road on the way to Nant Sarahs... or just lost the will to live & fell over ha!

I think we all deserve a pat on the back for toeing the line!

That was the most soul destroying 60k I have ever, and will probably, ever ride. Really enjoyed the first climb of the day and managed a new record of 51.6mph on the decent. After that it was horrendous. Nont Sarahs has left me mentally scarred for life!

By the way, did anyone else have problems with the GPX download - mine kept telling me to perform a u-turn despite following the route markers and other riders. 60k also turned out to be nearer 68k by my Garmin too.

Would have been a truly great ride (and would have done the full 100k) on a nice crisp autumnal day (like today!) but can't say I enjoyed it much unfortunately due to the weather.

  Ouch!

Man that was tough. I chickened out of the long route and was happy to get back to Uppermill with no serious incidents. Muchos respect to the 30-odd cyclists that did the whole route.

I didn't really have any problems, apart from staying upright and then making progress along Nont Sarahs.

As for route-finding, who is going to own up to continuing on through Delph and missing out that last dog-leg? I saw a couple of riders in front of me miss the sharp left turn, followed them, then realised my mistake and went back. I saw another couple of riders joining the route just before the railway bridge too, so I'm guessing it was a fairly common mistake.

My 1st Sportive also.  Rode round 60k route in 4:35 on my 3 tonne mountain bike (it felt like that anyway).  Not bothered about time for this one especially taking the nice cooling breeze towards top of Scapegoat & all the way up Nont Sahras.  It wasnt pleasant but in a sadistic sort of way enjoyed it.  Looking forward to event in 2010 (but not on the MB).

Well it was my first sportive so I didn't really undertsand how bad it was lol!!

Managed the 100km in 4:36 and rode within myself so overall I am very happy, though my legs are certainly aching.

Hardest 60 km I've ridden for years, thankfully myself and my friends decided to do the short route at the van on Nont Sarahs road. Epic weather, proper silly northern bike riding, where survival becomes more important than time.

Loved every minute of it, especially the mad thrash from the above van to the finish, doing through and off at 6 mph was a great laugh. Puzzled as to the independent nature of most riders; we should have had a group about 50 riders strong if everyone got on the back!

Quality event put on by Tony, but I notice he didn't ride himself, clever lad!

Going out to ride the full 100km on Monday, weather permitting....
