17/06/2017 - 2017 Cyclone Challenge Rides

Riders enjoying the quiet roads of the Cyclone Challenge Rides

The Cyclone Challenge Rides are amongst of the UK's largest and longest standing sportives. Part of the 3-day Cyclone Festival of Cycling, the Cyclone Challenge Rides are an outstanding cycling experience and with route options of 34, 64, 90 and 106 miles, there's something to challenge everyone. Riders on all routes benefit from top quality support, including mobile mechanical back-up, regular well-stocked feed stations, plus a vast array of home-made cakes and teas available in village halls. All four routes take you out into rural Northumberland, an area little known, but blessed with truly varied and beautiful landscapes: tranquil river valleys alternate with picture-postcard villages, wooded hillsides and heather clad uplands. With few population centres, the roads are also very quiet, making for a perfect cycling environment. Staggered starts mean that everyone can enjoy a stress-free day. Large car parks, under-cover sign on and lots of marshals and volunteers on hand throughout mean that you are able to relax and enjoy the ride. But don't be fooled - the road may be beautiful and quiet, but there is plenty to challenge even the best cyclist with some of the UK's most respected climbs, including the unique Ryals, a three-stage hill that has to be ridden to be believed. With family/leisure rides on the Tyne river banks the night before and elite road races on the Sunday, why not make a weekend of it? 25/06/2016 - L'Ariégeoise Cyclosportive

Start

An exceptional course via Pailheres and Le Plateau de Beille, the two over category Ariegoise climbs, puts it top of the List! As well as the usual 3 courses (Ariegeoise, Montagnole and Passegade) L'Ariegoise XXL will be a true challenge. The Plateau de Beille was the star of the queen stage of the Pyrenees in July, crowned by the victory of Joaquim Rodriguez in front of the top names from the UCI world tour. Over the 16km of climb, cycling fans flooded the lopes to encourage the stars of the road. Catalon supporters were at the party with the victory of one of their own and many climbed the colossal bike ride a few hours before "Purito". The Pailheres straddles both the Aude and the Ariege. During the last Tour de France, a certain Nairo Quintana passed to the head of the group; 2,001m of altitude known for its 'exceptional scenery' and the difficulty of its slopes, Pailheres joined "2000" to their name while participating in the "Cyclosportive of the Pyrenees". Gravir Pailhères et le Plateau de Beille, les 2 Hors Catégorie ariégeois TARASCON-SUR-ARIÈGE - PLATEAU DE BEILLE 169km - 4378m D+ No doubt that this course is going to be a favourite with cyclists who want to take up the challenge. The Ariegeoise XXL 2016 promises to be THE event of the cycling season with elevation gain of 4,378m with 2,466m being 'above category' spread over a 169km route in the Pyrenees.
