"The most popular event", which has grown to include 1,000 participants this year (could sell out many times over) and has a really challenging and super scenic route in mid Wales. Well done to Phil Weaver and his team. Look out for their new Devil Ride for 2008, which will take in the killer climb of Devils Staircase - as requested by members through the forum!? Superb route, superbly organised with the highest of standards. Congratulations!

Northern Rock Cyclone Challenge |

We still haven't worked out how Peter Harrison and his team have managed to put on such a huge weekend of cycling? Not only does the event has 3 distances, there are criteriums and a Premier calendar road race all held on the same weekend! Entry has already opened for 2008. We recommend early entry.

Exmoor Beast Cycle Challenge |

Organiser Marcus Di-Vincenzo who comes from a military background and is the owner of MIG Security Ltd has quite literally blown everyone from the cycling worlds socks off! Cyclosport.org managed by HOTCHILLEE, Editor comments "We were proud to be involved in helping support the Exmoor Beast. I was also lucky enough to ride the route - twice!". The Exmoor Beast certainly takes top spot for the most successful event in its first year. 2 distances to suit all abilities. Must do event. Congratulations!

The 3 Counties Challenge |

One of the most difficult and challenging events we've seen, it takes in killer climbs across the Yorkshire Dales into Cumbria and then "finishes you off "after 100 miles with the climb of the legend that is Kirkstone pass, with another 25 miles of sheer torture left. The last few remaining participants finishing this, "just" made it back before dark, after 12 or more hours. Respect! 2 distances and don't underestimate the shorter of these either!

The White Rose Classic |
|
Classic event that again takes in some favourite climbs in Yorkshire. The last 20 miles of this challenge is tough. The murderous roads after Malham and the climb of Langbar had many a competitor walking. 3 distances to suit all abilities and superbly organised.

Legbreaker Challenge |

Organised by Leek CC, one of the oldest traditional cycling clubs in the UK - started racing Penny Farthing's round a field in the late 1800's. This route is definitely for those who like climbing. There's hardly any flat and to climb over 3,000 in 80 miles is basically like jogging up Everest. Around the Staffordshire Moorlands and the not so well known parts of the Peak District, you'll be lucky to see a car.

Biketreks Fred Whitton Challenge |

What can you say, the "Grandaddy" of them all, which has "the most punishing climbs in the UK", in the Lake District. This makes the 2008 Etape look like a Sunday club run. Beware of imitations, this is the real thing! If you don't get off and walk you deserve a medal. If you finish, a Victoria Cross! Only one distance, make sure you are fully prepared for this challenge.

L' Etape du Dales |
|
The most Classic of the Yorkshire events, this has all the favourite climbs in and is as majestic and scenic as they get. Take on Fleets Moss, Buttertubs Pass, Tan Hill and Coal Road - 9 climbs in total. If you are really really lucky, you could spot a steam train on the Ribblehead Viaduct. The standards of this event are leading edge, especially with Raynet's mobile communications system in place.

Trans Cambrian Cyclosportive |

Another popular Welsh event starting from the old market town of Rhayader and taking a rollercoaster route past Llyn Clywedog and The Star Inn down to Machynlleth and the sea. From here it snakes back through the mountains via Nant-y-Moch reservoir, Devils Bridge, and the 100 year old Elan Valley dams, finishing back in Rhayader town centre. It is 87 miles long, the highest point is 509m and the lowest point is just 6m above sea level.

Thank you to everyone who provided event feedback after participating in some extraordinary challenges this year. Your feedback has been made available to organisers throughout the year, and has been invaluable. Cyclosport has listened to feedback from members. Of course, there are many more events and they all deserve recognition and thanks from us all. The above events portray the best standards as voted by cyclosport members.
2007 was an incredible year for Cyclo Sportives with more events, more demand and more choice. The British Sportive tagging onto the back of the Grand Depart has increased the numbers of cyclists wanting to take part in these type of events. We predict even stronger demand in 2008 which is great news for everyone, especially for you - a participant.
Please look out for the winner of our "Best Cyclo Sportive T-Shirt 2007" competition, voting closes 31st December 2007. We have had several thousand votes for over 21 T-Shirts so far. Thanks for voting!
Word on the street is that participants want Bling next year (medals) - so that they can admire them while on the turbo trainer in the shed, or impress their friends over dinner ...
