The Sharpener Returns - Sunday 4th May 2014

by Nick Gregory

Back again for Bank Holiday Sunday so that you can escape the dual threats of DIY and gardening, the Sharpener takes in some of the best back roads that Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire have to offer.

The 'challenging' 100km looped course wont be a push over, but it offers some great descents to balance the 'short sharp' climbs such as Kingston Blount Hill.

Feedback last year was so positive that event organisers, Allez Sportives, have kept the route unchanged, allowing riders to check their performance against last year's results courtesy of timing partner RTS.

Starting in the picturesque village of Haddenham, and routed through some of the best back roads Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire have to offer, the Sharpener presents a great chance to test just how hard you've trained this winter.

This year Allez are proud to officially partner with 3LC.tv training, who are giving free downloads of their Road Race training session to all riders taking part in Allez events.

A big favourite with Sportive riders, the 3LC Road Race is the turbo session to improve all round ability. It takes riders through a tough workout, training their body and mind to stay strong from start to finish - and it'll probably be the closest any of us are going to get to racing Cavendish!

Entry costs £20 (£25 on the day) and includes chip timing, a well signed route, mechanical assistance, broom wagon facilities, feed stations and first aid.

The route highlights can be viewed in the event video below:
