The Cheshire Cat Sportive's Mow Cop Killer Mile has become something of a sportive institution; drawing riders from all over the country to challenge themselves against a mile of pain that culminates in 100m of 1 in 4.
If you don't put your foot down during the 25% gradient, event organisers KILOTOGO present you with a coveted Killer Mile medal at the finish line. Having proved so popular over the years, for 2016 KILOTOGO have rolled out the Killer Mile concept to other events in the season-long series.
All the challenges will be completed on fully closed roads - just like the Mow Cop Killer Mile - so that you can attack the ascent in safety, albeit still being mindful of the thousands of fellow participants that KILOTOGO events attract.
Over the years, people have taken some very different and interesting approaches to riding Mow Cop - just take a look at YouTube for some inspiration...
Amongst the new additions to the Killer MIle series will be the Winnat's Pass Killer Mile on the Tour of the Peak sportive, taking place on Sunday 15 May 2016.
Simon Thomson, Director of KILOTOGO, said: "Having worked with the Derbyshire Safety Advisory Group for a number of years, in 2015 we were granted a full road closure on Winnat's Pass after the success of the previous year's up-hill closure."
Thomson continued: "It was a natural fit to bring the Killer Mile to Winnat's. The closed road gives every rider the peace of mind of being able to concentrate on riding the climb and not worrying about traffic on what is a slightly narrower than normal road. Riders can also breathe clean air rather than burnt clutch! There are more Killer Mile challenges to be announced in the coming months."
Some key KILOTOGO dates for the diary include:
Cornwall Tor - Sunday 1 May 2016
Tour of the Peak - Sunday 15 May 2016
Cheshire Cat - Sunday 19 June 2016
Launch dates for further events will be announced via the KILOTOGO newsletter.
