Dark & White Cycling's 'Try a Sportive' Series Kicks Off Successfully in Stannington

by Nick Gregory

The first of Dark & White Cycling's new 'Try a Sportive' events took place on Saturday March 29th, from Stannington near Sheffield. Just shy of 100 riders, ranging from complete newcomers to seasoned competitors, arrived eager and keen for the challenge.

The ride began with hill fog reducing visibility and keeping the air chilly, but conditions soon improved to allow riders to bask in some beautiful spring sunshine.

The route took in the spectacular, if hilly, countryside surrounding the reservoirs of Damsflask, Agden, Broomhead and Dale Dike. Riders also passed through the picturesque villages of Lower and Higher Bradfield and Dungworth.

The route's tough climbs stretched many of the riders to their limits, however, the shorter distance (as compared to standard sportives) meant the challenge was far more manageable for all types of cyclists.

For the more seasoned sportive riders it was a perfect way to warm up for this weekend's Igloo Eastern Peak Sportive.

Rider Times for the event can be found here.
