2014 Kilo to Go Wiggle Essex Explorer & Wiggle Rut Launch 4th December 2013

by Nick Gregory

KILO TO GO launch two more sportives for their 2014 season. The inaugural Wiggle Essex Explorer had such a good turnout in 2013, the organisers have moved it to a new HQ near Chelmsford for 2014. The Wiggle Rut has always been a popular end of season ride, and with rider numbers nearly in four figures for 2013, changes have also been made to this event.

Wiggle Essex Explorer - Every mile of each of the 3 route options is in the large county of Essex. Around half of the mileage on each of the three route options uses the same roads as stage 3 of the 2014 Tour de France. Some of these very roads have been utilised by Kilo to Go in previous sportives, and indeed last year's Explorer. You'll be sampling the roads 4 weeks ahead of the world's greatest cyclists. The routes take advantage of this lovely countryside, although you'll steel the occasional glance to Canary Wharf, The Shard and the City of London. Read more at

The Wiggle Rut - This event traverses a number of midland counties, but starts and finishes in Britain's smallest - Rutland. Rutland's motto is 'Much in Little', and the county provides a wonderful cycling challenge. Both of the routes venture to the south-east of the Uppingham HQ, where the terrain is reasonably flat, before taking in Borough Hill up to the Somerby feed station near one of the highest points in the area. Later, it's the notorious Launde Abbey climb followed by more undulations before the final, but notable climb of Kings Hill, whic takes riders back into the ancient market town of Uppingham. For 2014 Kilo to Go have teamed up with a new UK-wide charity partner - Caudwell Children. Founded in 2000, Caudwell Children provide practical and emotional support for disabled children and their families. Riders who support the charity through raising sponsorship will receive exclusive incentives and V.I.P hospitality at events. A number of the charity's celebrity supporters are also expected to take part at the events. The charity is unique in that a generous benefactor covers all of the annual administration and management costs through a personal donation. This means 100% of all direct donations are used to provide support for disabled children and their families.

No need to queue - avoid queuing at the start of the day - Kilo to Go post your 'Ticket to Ride' pack prior to the event so that you don't have to go to the registration desk on the day.

ALL finishers receive the following, no matter when you sign up: A HIGH5 taster pack, a pro-quality 750ml water bottle, a useful drawstring goodie bag, a finisher's medal, a certificate and a short video of the moment you cross the finish line, plus more....

All events feature: class leading UHF electronic timing, event photography from one of professional cycling's best known photographers and his colleagues, well stocked feed stations and mechanical support. Toilets are available at all event HQs and feed stations for your comfort.

Medical Safety: Out on the route, motorcycle outriders and paramedic backup are present for your safety. In addition, there is a highly visible broom wagon that'll sweep up any riders that require taking back to the HQ.

Great signage: Highly visible magenta signs will direct you around the course and clearly mark route split points so that you always end up on your chosen route.
