The Hope Against Cancer Leicestershire SuperTour
- 26/06/2016 - Sutton Bonington, Notts
ITP Events are making sure riders of all abilities and experience are catered for in 2014 with some new events featuring additional, shorter distances. Cyclosport takes a look at some of the highlights.
Hope Against Cancer Leicestershire SuperTour - Sunday 20th July 2014
With two new shorter distances - 55 and 35 miles - the epic circuit of Leicestershire now has something for everyone. Click here to look at the rider reviews from below for last year's event.
The routes are hilly in places, but riders will get the chance to target a good average speed, and to ride with friends and make new acquaintances on the road. The Leicestershire SuperTour is a sportive that takes advantage of the varied Leicestershire terrain, combining the tough hills of the Charnwood Forest with flatter sections elsewhere.
There is a 5km run option for triathletes at the end of each ride distance. The run route is through the University campus on almost traffic free lanes. There are five route options of 116 miles, 90 miles, 68 miles, 55 miles and 35 miles, all of which can be done with the 5km run.
Crossrider Sunday 31st August 2014 - Rutland
Taking in a combination of off-road tracks, bridleways and green lanes, this event can be ridden on a cyclocross or mountain bike as it mixes the two disciplines. The surfaces vary from reasonable tarmac to grassy, uneven surfaces with the odd brook thrown in.
The event is fully signposted, with maps and gps provided, although as ever with an off road event, some navigation will be required. Mechanics will be present at the event HQ, but a degree of self-sufficiency is useful for fixing any problems that may occur when you're out on the route.
The course has been designed to be challenging without the prospect of walking through mud for hours. Most of the route is hard surface of varying quality, or close to it. As always, chip timing and feedstations will also feature.
National Forest and Beyond - Sunday 14th September- Staffordshire/Derbyshire
Choose from 94, 76, 58 and 27 mile routes, with over 5000ft of climbing on the long route. The routes take in varied, rolling terrain, with a couple of sharp 13% climbs thrown in to make sure your gears are working.
The long route has two feedstations, at 30 and 74 miles, the other routes have one. Riders will receive the usual energy gels and bars at the start, and the feedstations will be stocked with water, energy drink and a variety of sweet and savoury food.
Once arriving back at Burton Albion FC, riders can take advantage of excellent shower and changing facilities. Soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee are included in the entry fee. The bar will also be open (definitely not included in the entry fee!)
St Barnabas Grimsthorpe Challenge - Saturday 14th June 2014 - South Lincs/Leics
Start and finish in front of the impressive 16th Century Grimsthorpe Castle in south Lincolnshire, with the first 5 miles of all routes on a traffic-free tarmac trail through the historic grounds and woodlands of the Grimsthorpe Estate.
After that, the rest of the route is not much busier, as riders first turn to the north of the Estate and onto the quiet lanes of South Lincolnshire, before then heading south for the more challenging roads of Rutland and Leicestershire.
There are three routes to choose from: 115 miles, 76 miles and 55 miles, with the longest route also being hillier. There are three feeds on the longest route, two on the medium route and one on the shortest. Post event food will also be provided as part of the entry fee.
