One Month to Go Until Wales Coast to Coast in Aid of Welsh Air Ambulance

by Nick Gregory

With just one month to go until the mammoth Wales Coast 2 Coast challenge in aid of Welsh Air Ambulance, final preparations are well underway and some further details are now available for riders and potential riders alike.

The 175-mile route from Caernarfon to Laugharne takes in some of the principality's most iconic landmarks, and thanks to climbs such as Pen-y-Pas, offers over 7,500ft of total ascent.

The ride starts at the Victoria Marina Car Park in Caernarfon at 8am on Saturday, 12th July and heads down to Laugharne - an epic one-day challenge that's not to be missed.

The organisers will enforce a 12mph average (relating to time on the bike, so excluding stops) to ensure that all riders are safe and have access to mechanical back up and, if needed, a break from the ride in the broom wagon.

The event will be fully waymarked and supported by five service vehicles on the road, which will look after all riders whether they suffer a mechanical, just need a rest or would like to retire from the event. All vehicles will carry hydration and basic food essentials, and feed stations will be available throughout the route.

For those riders wishing to have a clean change of clothes in Laugharne before they are shuttled back to Caernarfon, the organisers will supply numbered bags at registration to place clothes and essentials in. These will then be transported to Laugharne and be ready upon arrival.

All riders will receive a free rider jersey for the event. However, depending on numbers this may have to be posted out after the event. Every effort will be made however, to ensure that there is one ready to wear, if desired, at the event itself.

To help ease tiring legs, The Talbot Hotel in Tregaron (the 120 mile marker) will kindly be providing hot food in their award winning restaurant before riders set off for the final 55 miles to Laugharne.

Registration for the event costs £250, but the organisers will waive this cost if you raise £400 for the Wales Air Ambulance. There are no hidden additional costs either, with everything you need provided for you including food, hydration and transport.
