TOP 5: Cobbled Sportives

3) Dunkerque-Roubaix with Geraint Thomas

Another new event for 2014, the 165km route of the HotChillee Dunkerque-Roubaix takes riders from the coast, through the fields of Flanders, before joining the final 40km of the 'Queen of the Classics'. The route includes the last nine pavé sectors - five of which are in a flagged race zone - before finishing in the iconic Roubaix Velodrome.

Offering more than just a one day sportive, the weekend kicks off on Saturday with sign-on, a rider briefing and a special dinner for all those taking part - this year hosted by Olympic Champion and Team Sky pro rider, Geraint Thomas, Paris-Roubaix winner Magnus Backstedt and Tour de France winner Stephen Roche.

Riders are supported throughout by event partners Sigma Sport and Wattbike, and upon arriving at the velodrome in Roubaix are able to enjoy use of all the facilities, including the famous showers and pro rider bar, where Cyclosport caught up with Thomas:

CS: Geraint, this must be the first time you've done a Spring Classic outside of the pro ranks? What was the event like?

GT: Really good, I enjoyed it a lot. It was strange being on the same roads as the race so soon afterwards. I love the Classics, and there is nothing more iconic than finishing in the Roubaix Velodrome. With pro style support and rolling road closures, everything is catered for. It's well run and a good laugh.
