TOP 5: Cobbled Sportives

by Nick Gregory

5) Ronde van Calderdale

Yorkshire's tribute to the Tour of Flanders, the Ronde Van Calderdale features 12 sections of cobbles, nearly all of which are climbs similar to the bergs of Flanders. The Route is fully signed, but maps are also available to download for those who prefer to have their own means of navigation.

Retro and Vintage kit is welcomed at the Ronde van Calderdale, but not mandatory. However, there is a special prize for the best dressed rider. What's more, the money raised by the event goes to help support the Kirklees Cycling Academy.

Cyclosport's Emma Osenton has ridden the event in the past, and chose it as one of her top two events for 2013. Read her full review HERE

"Why does it stand out? Well, it was 80 miles of Calderdale's cobbled climbs, winding roads and places on my doorstep I'd never even seen before let alone been to. Brutally hilly and at times, and quite frankly a little daft. Be your own tourist or learn a new rat run, and what a perfect way to do it. It was run by a really friendly and enthusiastic team, and all for a good cause, the Kirklees Cycling Academy which helps get more kids into cycling."
