Explore Sussex with the Burgess Hill Springtime Classic 2014

by Nick Gregory

A few weeks after the 2014 SRS Events season kicks off with the Winter Classic, Burgess Hill will play host to the 7th running of the Springtime Classic Cyclosportive, on 30th March.

Local knowledge often plays a major part in organising great events, which is why SRS Events - a sports event company in based in Brighton - has concentrated its focus on the Sussex area.

The Springtime Classic truly is a classic route, and the event has proved extremely popular in recent years - becoming something of a 'must do' for those in the area.

The Springtime Classic has a great HQ in the centre of Burgess Hill at Oakmeeds Community College. The College has free parking available, and there are also local car parks nearby which offer free parking, should the college become full. Oakmeeds also has changing rooms with showers and a safe area for you to leave your belongings during the event should you wish.

After your ride, SRS make good use of the canteen, where there's free food and drink for every rider. If you're feeling a bit achy, the team from Hazel Crowely Sports Massage Associates will be on hand to help for just £6.

There is a great social feel to all of the SRS events, and the feed stops have a great range of food and drink to keep your energy levels high during the tough Springtime classic. All feed stations are at village halls and have toilets.

There are three great routes on offer:

  • The Classic route 71 miles
  • The Challenge route 54 miles
  • The Tour route 36 miles

Don't be fooled by the relatively 'short' 71 miles - notable hills on the Springtime Classic are, Pillow Mounds Hill, Kidds Hill, Groombridge Hill and the infamous Cob Lane Hill which although short, has got a gradient of twenty percent.

Official photographers, Avelo Images will be offering digital downloads as well as professionally produced prints a few days after the event, and all riders will be timed by Sportident.

Already over 450 riders have entered the Burgess Hill Springtime Classic, so if you're keen to ride the event you'd be advised to enter as soon as possible.
