Organisers, Mid-Devon Cycling Club have announced the date for the tenth running of their Dartmoor Classic Sportive. The popular event will take place on 26 June 2016, with the event village open for the entire weekend.

The Dartmoor Classic website will open for entries on 31 October 2015, with the event likely to sell out its 4,000 places within 24 hours, as it has done for the last three years.

"Next year's event will be extra special," explained event promoter, Andrew Perkins. "We're very excited to be celebrating our tenth birthday and are planning for this event to be the best yet. Over the next few months we'll be announcing some new event partners and features; there are plans for a bigger event village and an enhanced route."

"The event is unique in that it is run wholly by club members and volunteers, with over 120 marshals lining the route and another 50 'helpers' present at the HQ and feed station," continued Perkins. "The event isn't run as a commercial venture and thus, whilst the delivery is entirely professional, the emphasis isn't on cost-saving but on showcasing the club's talents and delivering the very best event possible."

"The profits generated are shared between local charities and ploughed back into the club to offer coaching and development and to support aspiring young riders," Perkins concluded.

Mid Devon Cycling Club is one of the UK's largest cycling clubs with over 500 members. The club has a reputation for producing leading riders including Olympian and Tour de France rider, Colin Lewis and current domestic pros, Yanto Barker and Tom Baylis.

The Dartmoor Classic is a UCI registered sportive based at Newton Abbot racecourse and featuring three different routes of 35, 65 and 105 miles. Each of the routes take in the rugged testing terrain of Dartmoor. The two longer routes include the iconic climbs of Beccaford, Haytor and Princetown.

The event has grown year-on-year from a relatively modest start with 750 riders up to its present incarnation as one of the UK's leading sportives, boasting 4,000 riders. The event featured a Strava-sponsored closed road King/Queen of the Mountain section in 2015, motorcycle outriders provided by British Cycling's National Escort Group and support from many sponsors including Skoda, Torq, Continental, Shimano and Primal.

Entry will open at 8am on 31 October 2015. For more information visit
