The sixth edition of HotChillee's Alpine Challenge kicks off in the French Alps today, with the beauty and tranquillity of the lakeside setting of Annecy juxtaposed against the tough climbs that lay in wait.

The multi-stage event consists of a prologue and 3 stages covering almost 8,000 metres of climbing. 2015 once again serves up a tough first day comprising a prologue up the Col de la Forclaz followed by a stage over the brutal Semnoz  (1,699m) - first used in the Tour de France in 1998 and then again in 2013.

Stage 2 includes the notorious Col des Aravis (1,486m) which has featured 39 times in the le tour. The final stage sees riders tackle the Col de L'Epine, Col le Marais and finishing at the 1,478m summit of the Col de la Croix Fry.

The event hosts riders from all over the world who will battle it out for the Sigma Sport climber's jersey for the men and the Wattbike climber's jersey for the women.

Dave Dent, 2014 jersey winner goes head to head with Magnus Backstedt last year.

Additionally there are age category awards for Masters (40-49) and Grand Masters (50+).  Last years men's category winner, Dave Dent will be defending his title in 2015.

1987 Tour de France winner, Stephen Roche will be riding alongside the now legendary HotChillee Ride Captains. Not everyone will have an eye on the jerseys though. Many riders in the lower seeded groups simply ride to complete the event and experience the pro peloton support.

Sven Thiele, HotChillee's founder, commented: "Whether you are here to race or just ride and finish, the stages and scenery with pro style full service support will provide you with an unforgettable Alpine experience. Completing 8,000 metres of climbing in three days is very special."

Next year's Alpine Challenge will see some major changes to the event's format, totally new routes and it will also move to a new date of 9-13 June 2016.
