Wiggle Northern Angel Fast Approaching

by Henry Peacock

This brand new event from UK Cycling Events will showcase the best the North East has to offer on the 22nd July. This event forms part of the Wiggle Super Series, a well-respected series that gives riders the chance to ride some of the UK's finest roads.

The Wiggle Northern Angel Sportive starts from Kirkley Hall near Ponteland in the stunning Northumberland countryside. All the routes on offer give riders quiet roads that head into the picturesque Northumberland National Park.

Once you get to the spectacular Harwood Forest the 66-mile Fun route splits off and the Epic (92-mile) and Standard (80-mile) routes circumnavigate the breath-taking Simonside Hills, which provide a dramatic and jagged background. The Epic route briefly splits off once more to take in an extra northerly loop towards Kirdland Forest.

All three routes then rejoin and cross the awe inspiring, Rayless Common, Corsenside Common, Troughend Common, Hareshaw Common and Chester Common. Riders will feel a sense of remoteness with virtually traffic free roads, but will have their senses constantly overloaded with the endless picture postcard views.

Ride Route Profiles

The event includes all the sophistication you would expect from a Wiggle Super Series Event, including: Showers / Toilets, electronic timing, well stocked feed stations, free parking, goody bag, event photography, mechanical support, bike wash facilities and most importantly for a rider a well marked course. There will also be the chance to try out a Garmin bicycle computer for the ride.
