Truly great atmosphere. You were cheered on passes . Cow bells were rung. Villages came out to cheer you. Marshall faultless . Police stopped traffic at dangerous junctions. Feed stations had real food like jam and tuna sandwiches. Mountain rescue and paramedics at top and bottom of passes respectively. Pastie beans and mushy peas at finish. It's how a cycling event should be run. Recommend it to anyone who wants a hard cycling challenge . I spent 3 months getting fit enough in hilly Hertfordshire . But it all paid off. Still buzzing .
I just had my best ride on a bike ever.. I completed the Fred in 2008, 2010 and 2012 was my third ride in this event. I take part in loads of sportives and this is easily the best. Every year I have taken part it has got better and better, And, all the profits go to charity. Just to reiterate, this is the best. Period.
First time i have done this ride. What a great day, shame about the windy conditions.
Hardknott is brutal after 100miles in the legs.
First class feed stops, the helpers are a credit to the Fred Whiiton name.
Hope i get a place again next year to enjoy the ride in warm, sunny conditions without that wind.
A great day in the saddle.
