2015 European Event Entries Round-Up - The Classics, Mallorca 312, Stelvio Santini, Marmotte, Maratona and the Etape

by Nick Gregory

Unlike Nigel Farage, here at Cyclosport we love Europe and all things European cycling related. Now is the time of year when some of the biggest one-day events on the continent open entries for the coming season - and here's Cyclosport's round-up of the latest news.

The Spring Classics:

April, for many cycling fans, is the highpoint of the year. Nothing quite matches the excitement of The Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and this year you can be a part of it. Each of these three professional races - which take place on Sundays - have corresponding sportives open to the general public which take place over the same route just 24 hours earlier. So why not make a weekend of it by riding the same routes as the world's best then watching them have a go the following day.

Tour of Flanders - 04/04/2015 - Entry Now Open
Paris-Roubaix - 11/04/2015 - Entry Opens 8 December
Liege-Bastogne-Liege - 25/04/2015 - Entry Opens 8 December

Mallorca 312

Entries are now open for the sixth edition of the Mallorca312. The success of each edition - in 2014 there were more than 2,000 participants - and the high demand during the pre-registration period have led the organisers to increase the cap to 3,000 entrants for 2015.

The event - which sees riders complete a full 312km lap of the island (and 4,300m of climbing) - will take place on the 25th April, 2015. Cyclosport's Nick Gregory headed to the island earlier this year to take part in the 2014 Mallorca 312. His review of the event can be found here

Granfondo Stelvio Santini:

The Mortirolo and the Stelvio are two of the most beautiful climbs in the world. During the Giro d'Italia 2012, a single stage saw the peloton take on both of these legendary climbs for one of the most brutal days of the race. Now for only the third time, the Grandondo Stelvio Santini will allow you to pit yourself against these legendary climbs and follow in the pedal strokes of some of cycling's greats.

There are three routes on offer - short (60km, 1,950m ascent), medium (137.9 km, 3,053m) and long (151.3 km, 4,058m ascent.) Riders will each receive a Granfondo Stelvio Santini cycling jersey - made in Italy by Santini Maglificio Sportivo - as part of their race pack. If you conquer the Stelvio and complete the Granfondo, you will also receive an exclusive 'finishers only' ImadelT cap!

La Marmotte:

The toughest sportive in the world? The statistics speak for themselves: 175km and 5,000m of climbing over mythical passes such as the Glandon (1918m), the Telegraphe (1570m), the Galibier (2642m) and the famous 21 hairpins of the Alpe d'Huez (1880m) to the finish. It's an epic challenge which feeds the imagination and provides the motivation to get out there and put the miles in on a sleety February club run.

This year general entries sold out in a record 12 hours! However, you can still register for the "Grand Trophee" - which consists of La Marmotte plus at least three other events organised by the same people. Furthermore, Marmotte package deals are also still available via tour operators.

La Marmotte - 04/07/2015 - General Entries Closed

Maratona dles Dolomites:

The Maratona dles Dolomites was first run in 1987, and its challenging route and spectacular scenery has seen it grow in popularity since then. Three routes have been planned for the 2015 event, which takes place on Sunday 5th July in the Alta Badia region of Italy. The full Maratona takes in eight Dolomites passes over 138km, with 4,230m of climbing. The middle course is a 106km route with 3,130m of climbing over six passes, and the Sellaronda, short course, covers 55km of some of the most beautiful scenery in Italy, climbing four passes and 1,780m during the ride.

The general entry period has closed, however, places are still available in two batches of charity entries which will be made available to raise funds for Südtiroler SporthilfeInsieme si può and Alex Zanardi's BIMBINGAMBA Association. These will go on sale in late November and March - see charities page for details.  Furthermore, there are a number of tour operators still offering entry into the event as part of wider travel packages.

Maratona dles Dolomites - 05/07/2015 - General Entries Closed

Etape du Tour:

On 19th July 2015, five days before the Tour de France peloton passes by on the same route during stage 19 of next year's race, cyclosportive riders in their thousands will take to the roads of the Alps for the 23nd edition of L'Étape du Tour. The 138km route from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to La Toussuire-Les Sybelles will include the climbs of the Col du Chaussy, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Mollard and La Toussuire.

General entry is still open, however, with 10,000 of the 11,000 places having already been snapped up you better be quick if you want to grab a place.
