REVIEW: Stolen Goat Bodyline Jersey - Cafe Racer Red

What sets a jersey apart from the huge competition? There are many factors - material, cost, features and performance, to name a few.

A relative newcomer to the already crowded marketplace is Stolen Goat. As a company they were formed in 2012 with the aim of bringing everyday cyclists a bespoke collection of as they put it, 'awesome cycling products'. Not content with being a pure retailer, they now produce their own Stolen Goat branded products.

They now sell jerseys, bib-shorts, T-shirts and accessories. Their plan for the Bodyline Jersey was to produce a jersey that offers performance coupled with a great feel. Added to this they didn't want it to cost the earth. Not a bad place to start.

With a jersey you do want it to do all the above but it has to look good to. Surely you don't want to be seen in something sub-standard? When you're out with your club or your mates, you want to stand out, for the right reasons. Stolen Goat also wanted to pass the savings they made by cutting out the middle man to you, the customer.

So far so good, the ideals are spot on and the principals too. Made from 100% polyester in Belgium the Bodyline Jersey offers subtle styling. It has a predominantly red body with a white stripe across the chest and a black finish across the shoulders. The jersey has a full length zip which is easy to use and when done up it has a small zip pocket for it to fit into so it doesn't irritate the neck. The zip is a YKK camlock zipper, apparently the best in the business.

The neck line offers some comfort as it provides a collar and you don't need to worry about irritating labels as they use heat transfer labels - attention to detail. To complement these features the UV protected material makes up the majority of the jersey. This is for maximum ventilation and to make it super-fast drying. The only downside here is it does retain odours. If you have a particularly warm ride or you end up donning a jacket where the breathability is reduced the Bodyline does struggle to wick away the sweat.

On the rear you get the standard three pockets, all of a uniform width and height providing room for all your ride essentials. The additional feature is the zipped pocket on the outside of the rear right pocket. Besides having a zip for security it has a water resistant liner, making it ideal for keeping your phone, money or card dry in inclement weather or free from sweat.

To top it all off the sleeves are a revelation. The half-length aero sleeves have a raw cut end. The idea behind them is they support your muscles, they stay in place but aren't overly tight. They are extremely comfortable. If only all sleeves fit and felt this good. To ensure the jersey stays in place there is an elasticated gripper to stop it riding up. So far, in terms of longevity and durability there have been no issues. I have found with some polyester jerseys that there can be issues with wear especially if you use a backpack. This can rub and cause the jersey to fray. So far so good with the Bodyline jersey though.

With a broad selection of sizes it is also available for men and women. All this for £60. So how does it perform? The answer is unequivocal when you put all this together in one package - it's a top performer. Even at this time of year with a base layer this is great jersey - comfortable and performs well even under a jacket. It wicks the sweat away but prevents you from over-heating. To cost this little but provide so many features is something of a revelation.

Durability needs to be tested further, but otherwise a great choice.
