Numbers Add Up for Tenth Cyclone Festival of Cycling

2016 will see the tenth anniversary of the Cyclone Festival of Cycling - Newcastle and Northumberland's top cycling weekend. 

To celebrate, organisers have been back through the archives and spreadsheets and have found ten impressive stats about the weekend... 

  • £13,000,000 - Contribution to the economy of the North East 
  • £2,000,000 - Raised for charity 
  • 1,800,000 - Miles ridden by participants in the Cyclone Challenge rides 
  • 25,000 - Number of riders in Cyclone Challenge since 2007 
  • 1952 - Year of the first Beaumont Trophy race 
  • 90 - Distance in miles of a new route option added for 2016 
  • 63 - Distance in miles of the most popular Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge route 
  • 5th - 2016 is the fifth anniversary of the Curlew Cup women's race 
  • 4 - The total number of events that comprise the Cyclone Festival of Cycling: the Virgin Money Tyne 6 Bridges leisure rides, the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge rides, the Curlew Cup women's race and the Beaumont Trophy men's race 
  • 1 - amazing weekend


The Cyclone Festival of Cyclone takes place from 17-19 June, 2016, attracting riders from all over the UK and beyond. 

The weekend includes something for riders of all abilities: 

  • 17 June - Virgin Money Tyne 6 Bridges leisure rides
  • 18 June - Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge rides, with 34, 64, 90 and 106 mile options
  • 19 June - Curlew Cup Women's National Series Road Race
  • 19 June - Beaumont Trophy UCI level 1.2 men's road race
