After all the excitement of the Tour de France coming to the UK, the people of North Wales still have their own fantastic sportive and cycle festival to look forward to - the Tour de Mon.

The Tour de Mon is a non-competitive cycle event held on Sunday 31 August 2014, which takes riders around some of the best views and roads the beautiful island of Anglesey has to offer. The event is organised by local events specialists, Always Aim High Events, and sets off from Newry Beach in Holyhead.

The sportive will once again include its famous sprint stage - the 'Flying Mile - which gives cyclists the opportunity to race against the clock for a perfectly straight, uninterrupted mile along the runway at RAF Valley.

This is the second time the Tour de Mon will take place, and after the incredibly successful first event in 2013 (where over 1000 took part) the 2014 event is set to be unmissable. New for 2014, the Tour de Mon will be held over two days and will include the Tour de Mon Cycle Festival. This festival will take place on Saturday 16 August while the actual Tour de Mon sportive will be held on the Sunday.

Newry Beach, Holyhead, will be transformed into a festival of cycling that the whole family can enjoy.  There will a half pipe for you to test your skills on, a pedal-powered cinema showing some exciting cycle films and the National Cycling Museum will also be there to teach you more about cycling history. There will be also be live music and a host of other attractions, including the fantastic Addo Mountain Bike Display team, and lots of local fresh food retailers.

The festival atmosphere generated on the Saturday will be carried over to the Sunday where there will again be live music and displays as well as the Tour de Mon cycle sportive. With over 5 weeks to go until the event the excitement all over North Wales is steadily building. Over 500 people have signed up and Always Aim High Events Director and event planner, Nigel Kendrick is expecting hundreds more to join them.

"Last year's Tour de Mon was simply amazing. This year the event is going to be even bigger and we are expecting well over 1250 riders to take part in the sportive! The Cycling Festival is a fantastic addition to the weekend and I think it will do a great deal for cycling on the island of Anglesey. If you don't have a bike of your own you will be able to hire one free of charge on the Sunday. The bikes are kindly provided by Beics Cybi and if you want to book one then please contact the Always Aim High Events office on We want to say a special thank you to Anglesey County Council for all their support in organising this event."

The Tour de Mon has 4 choices of route meaning there is an option for everyone. Riders can choose from the 106-mile Mawr, the 75-mile Canol, the 40-mile Bach and finally the 6.5-mile Tour de Teulu. The Tour de Teulu is a completely free family ride suitable for all children. The 2013 Tour de Teulu attracted over 150 local family riders and it is expected that the 2014 ride will be even more popular.

If you want to join the hundreds of other cyclists already signed up to the Tour de Mon then register up HERE. Route and all other information can be found on the Tour de Mon website
