In 2014, the Tour de France came to the UK and Stage 3 ran through Essex, finishing in London. There's now an opportunity to ride some of the best parts of the route in a fully supported sportive delivered by KILO TO GO. Around half of the mileage on each of the three routes of the Essex Explorer uses the same roads as the 2014 Tour de France Stage 3.

Based at a new HQ with on-site parking at North Weald Airfield, the Essex Explorer is now in its third year and will take place on 31 May 2015. The HQ is not far from Chipping Ongar, where last year's edition was held in glorious sunshine.

As well as moving the HQ just down the road, a few tweaks have been made to the routes to enable more progressive cycling. The feed stations have also been upgraded, and now provide great tasting cakes, sandwiches and savouries from a local family baker, alongside HIGH5 Sports nutrition products that include EnergyGels, IsoGels, EnergySource drink and EnergyBars.

All riders will receive a goodie bag after crossing the finish line including, amongst other items, a KTG Event T-Shirt, the new finisher's medal and a HIGH5 Taster Pack. This is now standard across all eight KTG sportives in 2015.

Every mile of each of the 3 route options - 54, 86 and 108 miles - is in the large county of Essex. Often thought of as almost an outreach of London, if you don't know Essex then you are in for some surprises. It's a very rural county with some of the most productive arable farming in the world. That said, you'll still steal the occasional glance to Canary Wharf, The Shard and the city of London from time to time.
