Sportive and training camp organisers, Wheels in Wheels Events have announced a new two day format for the 2015 Forest of Dean Spring Classic in Monmouth on 3 & 4 May 2015.

The 11th edition of the Forest of Dean Spring Classic sees the event return to its usual early May Bank holiday weekend slot, as well as to Monmouth town centre for 2015. Big news is that it's now a two day event, with the Monmouthshire Challenge on Sunday 3 May, and the popular Forest of Dean Spring Classic on Monday 4 May.

The new Monmouthshire Challenge event on the Sunday is a testing 62 mile (100km) route through the county taking in some of the 2014 British Championship Road Race route on the way. This is a perfect warm up for the next day's hilly Classic event, or a great sportive in its own right for those wanting a less strenuous day in the saddle. At £15, it must be one of the cheapest sportives in the UK too.

Monday 4 May sees the traditional Forest of Dean event with two challenging courses through the stunning Monmouthshire countryside. The Classic 90 mile (145km) route is a tough, hilly ride through the beautiful Forest of Dean, with 20 individual climbs counted down over the length of the course.

The climbing starts right from the off and the route takes in over 8,000ft of ascent in total. Broadwell and Bulls Hill are just two of the many climbs along the way, but the real test is the 25% grind of Symonds Yat which comes less than 10 miles from the finish. The original idea for this route was as training for the big continental sportives where climbing is the norm, so expect a hilly ride.

The shorter 62 mile (100km) route takes in most of the traditional route but with a much more forgiving eight climbs instead of 20, but still includes the iconic Symonds Yat. With over 6,000ft of climbing it's still a tough day out, so don't be fooled by the shorter distance.

Both events will start and finish from Vauxhall Fields, a short walk from Monmouth town centre with plenty of free parking and camping available on site. All routes will be fully signposted, have well stocked feed stops, timing, mechanical back up from Shimano on route (and at the start/finish) and a broom wagon should all else fail. Free tea, coffee and porridge will be available to riders at the start, and a free snack and award for all finishers.

Places are limited to 500, so early entry is advised. Separate entries are available for each day, or ride both and receive a discount.
