Long Mynd Burway - a climb made famous as the setting for Chris Boardman's 1989 National Hill Climb Championship win - will once again take centre stage in 2015 when riders on the KILOTOGO Shropshire Mynd sportive will enjoy a fully closed road ascent of the climb.

Shropshire is known (or should that be unknown) as the secret county; that's because it's a relatively undiscovered gem with high mountains, wooded valleys, unspoilt villages, ancient castles and babbling rivers. Explore its delights on two wheels on 2 August 2015 with the Shropshire Mynd Sportive.

In a similar fashion to Winnat's Pass at the Tour of the Peak sportive, the Burway is near to the start of the ride (12 miles in) giving you the maximum opportunity to give it your best.

For 2015, KILOTOGO have moved the Shropshire Mynd to a new HQ at Ludlow Racecourse with more convivial surroundings, on-site catering and parking. Also new this year will be the two feed stations, which now include a variety of sandwiches, savoury snacks and various cakes all produced specifically for the event by a family baker.

Finally, in 2015 the event will offer just one, 84 mile route.  However, the route still criss-crosses the English / Welsh border meaning riders can be sure that all the best bits are included, not least the stunning climbs of Long Mynd (England), Stiperstones, Long Mountain (Wales) and a new ascent up Kerry Hill, with a long, long, long descent.

The first major climb is a FULLY CLOSED ROAD ascent of Long Mynd-Burway. It's steep and twisty, but from the top you'll have some incredible views whilst you catch your breath. From there, riders will descend to Ratlinghope before taking on Stiperstones en-route to the first feed station.

Next up it's the turn of Long Mountain - TWICE! First a long, steady climb before a rapid descent and then straight back up via a much steeper and shorter climb - think Mow Cop from the Cheshire Cat. The final major climb is up Kerry Hill, before enjoying an incredibly long descent on the way back to Ludlow Racecourse.

The Shropshire Mynd will offer class-leading electronic timing, event photography, well-stocked feed stations and mechanical support. Motorcycle outriders and paramedics will be out on course should anyone get into any difficulty, and if you have a serious mechanical the broom wagon can return you to HQ. KILOTOGO are also known for their industry-leading hi-vis magenta route signing.

KILOTOGO have also announced that Poole Alcock Solicitors have become an official event partner. Anna Burns, Associate Solicitor, said: "Members of our team have taken part in a number of KILOTOGO events and have ridden around the Shropshire Mynd area. We know how beautiful the area is for cycling. The hills can be challenging but the descents are certainly worth working for!"

Cyclosport's Andy Dawson reviewed the event for Cyclosport last year and rated it a whopping 95.6%:

I turned out for the Shropshire Mynd sportive and had a great day in the South Shropshire hills on a good course with great support. Organisers KILOTOGO have been going for years and offer nine excellent sportives throughout the year. Their experience, expertise and equipment really help make the sportive series an excellent one.

I would highlight the course, which really took advantage of the wide, smooth roads of South Shropshire. The route was a logical path with relatively few changes of direction and it had long stretches of uninterrupted riding.

KILO TO GO have defined the standard for what a sportive should be. If you are a first time sportive rider this is the sort of event that will look after you and help you have a successful day.
