Legends and Stars Line Up for The Cape Rouleur 2014

The Cape Rouleur, the first Global Event Series event of the year will host a number of stars and celebrities alongside 150 international riders competing in the multi stage road event based in Franschhoek, Western Cape. The event format is the closest an amateur will experience riding a Grand Tour in Europe, with seeded groups, rolling road closures, motorbike outriders, service corps, medical services, sports therapists and professional support crew.

Professional mountain biker and Team Bulls stalwart, Karl Platt will once again be contesting the Pro Yellow Jersey. Karl is 4 times winner of the ABSA Cape Epic and has in the past been a jersey winner in The London-Paris, Alpine Challenge and Cape Rouleur.

Tour de France legend and winner of the Triple Crown in 1987, Stephen Roche will once again be making the trip to Cape Town. He is a regular participant enjoying the week of racing and riding, finally finishing with the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour.

Joel Stransky, Springbok rugby legend will be riding his third consecutive Cape Rouleur accompanied by riders fundraising for his Lumo Hawk charity, one of the official charity partners.

Matt Prior, Vice Captain of the England Cricket team will be making his debut. A relatively new convert to cycling he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Jan Braai, founder of National Braai Day and TV personality will also be making his debut appearance in what is his first multi stage endurance road event. 

Liezel van der Weshuizen, radio and TV personality who is also known for her participation in a multitude of extreme endurance events will be riding her debut Cape Rouleur.

Mayor Conrad Sidego, of the Stellenbosch Municipality said, "It's a privilege to host an innovative international event in our beautiful countryside that attracts riders from all over the world."

Alan Winde, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism added: "We welcome the Cape Rouleur to our region once again for what is becoming a fantastic showcase week for cycling in the Southern Hemisphere."
