One of the UK's oldest and most revered sportives is set to return in 2016 in its traditional early October slot. Recently revived by a group of enthusiasts keen to keep the classic event going, the Autumn Epic is a decade-old fixture in the British sportive scene.

"This is about an established, classic route ridden by thousands of cyclists over the years.  It's a constant in the ever changing world of sportives and participants can train with confidence for a challenge that can take them several attempts to conquer," said new organiser, Andy Dawson.

The 150km course has 2,800m of climbing (over 9,000ft) through mid-Wales mountains and makes the Epic one of the tougher ways to finish your year.

"Ultimately, a sportive is about the route.  The right mixture of tough hills, fast flats and spectacular descents on almost traffic-free roads means the Epic has lots of committed riders.  It's a course that stretches people; they train specifically for it and then try to improve their time each year," Dawson continued.

Gold, Silver and Bronze standard times for men and women, set according to age, mean everyone will have something to aim for on 2nd October.

"We added a new 80km route that follows the first 45km of the classic route and then turns back for a high-ridge return to the start.  If you haven't done the training or can't quite envisage completing the big course then this will be a brilliant introduction to the Epic," concluded Dawson.
