Action Medical Research, the children's charity with an unparalleled reputation for organising top class cycling events, is teaming up with the Tour of Britain.

Cyclists are offered the opportunity to experience a truly professional tour ride, taking in the Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District. This amateur ride on Sunday 5 October 2014 offers two challenges - the Professional 102.2 mile route and the Challenge 58.9 mile route.

This is the official sportive of the Tour of Britain, and offers participants the chance to ride the stage finish straight at the end of the ride. Joe Fisher will lead the Tour's own PA commentary team throughout the event.

The Tour Ride 100 offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for amateur cyclists to enjoy the full Tour of Britain experience. There will be the chance to cycle with the professionals, including the UCI Continental Squads and a leading women's team. All cyclists will also receive a goody bag and medal.

The Professional route has been cleverly designed by the Tour of Britain team and takes in the King of the Mountains climbs of Ramshorn, Hollingsclough Moor, Gun Hill, the Killer Mile and Mow Cop. The Challenge route takes in the climbs of Gun Hill and Oakamoor.

David Graham, Head of Community Events and Fundraising, commented: "Come and be part of something very special and end your outdoor cycling season on a real high. If you think you've completed all of the major milestone rides then think again, the Tour Ride 100 really is the one to conquer."

A pasta party will kick off the event on Saturday 4 October. As you would expect from a professional ride, there will be chip timing and mechanics on hand at feed stations and on route. Start and finish bike checks are also available from Chain Reaction Cycles. The event offers ample free parking and will set off from the award-winning visitor attraction, the Trentham Estate in Stoke-on-Trent.

The money raised by the riders will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Medical research can save and change children's lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children's lives is poorly funded.  Action Medical Research is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
